As we all know, since the "Hands-Free Law" went into effect we are all required to use a head set of some sort when we are driving a car. But how many people since have been given a ticket for not following the law?
Here is an article that talks about the how many tickets have been given out since the law went into effect.
The California Highway Patrol has written more than 2,500 citations to drivers who were using cellular telephones without handsfree devices.
The handsfree law went into effect July 1.
A CHP spokesman says that number of tickets compares to about 45,000 speeding tickets written during a normal two-week period.
Officers also have written 25 citations to drivers 18 and under. Those drivers are prohibited from using any sort of electronic device while they're behind the wheel, including cell phones.
The figures, requested Monday by The Associated Press, do not include citations issued by local police and sheriff's departments across California. Money from the fines goes to court programs.
California is one of six states with laws requiring handsfree use of cell phones.
